Meet the team: Dan Bieny

Stepping into the ring next we have Dan Bieny who joined the team just last year. When he’s not in meetings with our distribution partners you can find him living in the sticks adding to his unique bottle collection. Find out more about the channel veteran below.

Next week we will hear from one of the longest standing members of the team, any guesses? There’s a bottle of something in it for the first to get it right.

Tell us a little bit about your role at D-Link and what your day to day responsibilities look like?

I’m the Business Channel & Distribution Manager for UKI. It’s a big role and has two key functions to it. The first is strategizing and leading the B2B sales function to work with our existing and potential new VIP+ partners. The other half of the job is working with our distributors to deliver sustainable growth. It’s an exciting role which gives me a full 360 degree view of the business.

What is your proudest – none work/academic related- achievement?

CRN fight night without a doubt. Anyone who knows me, knows there isn’t an athletic bone in my body, nor one which would needlessly put itself in harm’s way. An experience I’ll remember forever. If you fancy a full blown laughing fit then the video is still on YouTube.

If you were a chocolate bar which one would you be and why?

Celebration selection box. As they say, variety is the spice of life. Why not go from a Mars to and Malteser. It’s also worth reminding ourselves that now and again, life does serve you a Bounty and you just have to get on with it. Just for the record, I will also eat the Bounty.

If you could create a new technological device that could do anything what would it be and why?
An invention to regrow thinning hairlines. I would be the first customer, however I also know there are an awful lot of customers out there.

What would be the soundtrack to your life?

My music taste is appalling. A blame my parents. All I can remember is listening to as a child was Simply Red, Wet Wet Wet, Alanis Morissette and Celine Dion. There is just no way I could pin one soundtrack to my life.

If you had to trade places/ positions with someone in the office for a day who would it be and why?

Dhara Kothari, D-Link’s UK & Ireland Marketing Manager. I’ve got a very creative streak and I would like to have the time to exercise it with colouring pencils, crayons and maybe work my way up (dream big) to a glitter pen. Haha! Only joking Dhara. I’m going to pay for that…

Where is your favourite place in the world to visit?

I’m a firm believer that it’s a big wide world and I shouldn’t go back to the same place until I’ve seem more of it. My favourite so far was Thailand. It’s where I proposed to my fiancé, we had the most amazing 2 weeks of our life.

Do you have any hobbies?

Does making the most of the weekend count? Long walks in the countryside with a good pint of bitter and pub grub on route. After a busy week it’s nice to do something at a slower pace with no real objective.

If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?

Buy a new build house. The romantic notion of buying an old a decrepit Victorian property and doing it up is not fun!

Tell us an interesting fact/ joke/ your favourite quote/poem

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. —Michael Jordan
